Waacking was created in the 70's in the gay clubs in Los Angeles. It was high energy funk & disco music. It was mainly the poor black, Latino & Asian men that found the freedom with waacking to express themselves through movement, despite the oppressive environments they faced on a daily basis. Waacking is an extremely expressive, free and musical form of dance, that is characterised by arm movements & posing with strong emphasis on musicality & improvised performance. Nowadays people practice waacking for the same reasons and different reasons. Waacking is a real social dance that is about sharing together. Waackers like to create in today's life waacking battles/events, as well as choreographies, but while always keeping in mind what waacking is about!
